Oil on wooden palette
25.5 x 23.5 x 5 cm
Framed in clear perspex box frame
Originally made for Frean's 2016 exhibition at Paul Smith's shop in Mayfair, London, this is a painting of YBA Sarah Lucas's studio floor, as imagined by artist Holly Frean. The surface of the wooden palette is used to represent a wooden floor and is littered with cigarette butts - the detritus of studio life and Lucas's preferred sculptural material in some of her most celebrated works.
This painting has been framed in such a way as to present it as an object in the round, the hanging wire hidden behind so that it appears to float in front of the wall in its clear perspex frame.
