Oil on bronze
25 x 16 x 4 cm
One made (conceived as an edition of three)
Behold! Rembrandt van Rijn's palette (as re-imagined by Holly Frean) cast in solid bronze, hanging on specially designed scrail - half screw, half flat-headed nail. One in a series of three different palettes belonging to three different artist heroes. Each features a typically quirky, miniature oil portrait of the artist it belonged to, in this case the great man and old master, Rembrandt van Rijn - as both a gesture of homage and as a stamp of authority.
This bronze wall-piece was shown as part of a series of palette paintings at Paul Smith's shop in Mayfair, London in November 2016 during Frean's exhibition Who's Counting?
